How many of us actually take the time to stop and smell the roses and actually enjoy them? And how many of us pull out our phones and view the flowers through our screen just to get the perfect picture for Instagram or Snapchat? I know I am one of these culprits.
This digital age we live in has caused us to stop living in the moment and view things through the screen on our phones. But just staying mindful to our addictions of our phones is one step closer in the right direction. Our society has made being socially present more important that being physically present. Being constantly on social media has basically become the norm in our lives. But what can we do to change this?
Like I said about, just being mindful that the Internet and our phones are constantly pulling us away from what’s really going on around us.
2. Turn Off Notifications
Notifications are the worst. How many times does our phone buzz or ding with a notification from an app and we immediately go check it? I know I do this. But I have learned to turn off notifications that aren’t important and have left the super important ones on.
3. Put Your Phone Away
I know I’ve mentioned this in a different post as well, but it’s so important. If you are having a conversation with someone, put your phone away in your bag or anything. Out of sight, out of mind. I also find it rude to be on your phone while talking to someone.
4. Live in the Moment
You don’t need to post the social media the moment something happens. Enjoy it while it’s happening. You can go ahead and post about it later after it’s happened.
5. Set Times
Setting boundaries for yourself with your friends, family and apps can be a game changer. Set different times throughout the day to check your email and apps. That way you are not constantly checking them throughout the day.
6. Go Outside
That’s just it, go outside and enjoy the fresh air. It’s so relaxing just to site outside on your porch or even going for a walk.
7. Make Time
Make time for yourself whether it’s reading a book, meditating, prayer. Whatever it is you want to do, just enjoy that time to find peace.
8. Get Up
When your alarm goes off, get out of bed. Don’t go scrolling through your phone. I also mentioned this in the post on how to cut your morning routine in half. Staying in bed and looking through your phone will take you down a black hole. And next thing you’ll know is that you have to be out of the house in 5 minutes!
I want you to go and try some of these things. I may not be perfect at all of these but I do try. Do you have any tips?
