We all know we need to practice self-care but it may not always happen. Saying we don’t have enough time or are too busy. Self-care should not be an afterthought. Here are some ways on how you can prioritize your self-care.
Choose Your Time Wisely
Be conscious of who you choose to spend your time with. Your goal is to become the person who emanates positive energy and enthusiasm. Make sure to smile often, give compliments and express gratitude.
Practice A Hobby
Self-care is all about finding balance between your work life and personal life. Make sure you have a passion project or hobby to do in your free time.
On days where we are so busy that we might forget or not have time to eat, showering or taking a bath might be the last thing on our minds. But doing this might be the only time of day we can take time for ourselves. Light a scented candles, use some nice soap, and some fluffy towels.
Switch Your Routine
Getting out of our normal patterns helps us be more mindful or present. And may help you discover things about yourself you didn’t know. Try a DIY drink instead of your normal coffee. Wear a different lipstick colour than you normally wear day to day. Drive a different route to work.
We rush through life saying we don’t have enough time to get everything done. When we do this, we will miss experiences. But what happens if we actually take the time to slow down. Enjoy your morning coffee, listen to your favourite podcast while stuck in traffic. We actually don’t need more time, we just need to learn how to spend it better.
Meditate While Making Your Coffee
Meditation is really good for your mental health but it can sometimes be hard to make time for it. While you’re waiting for your coffee, sit and meditate for a few minutes.
Schedule Fun Time
Just because we’re adults doesn’t mean we can’t have fun. Make sure to give yourself some unstructured play time. It could be having a dance party or an adult colouring book. Have fun and laugh.
Make one small change to your diet. It doesn’t have to be big. Maybe it’s drinking more water or adding more veggies to your diet. Healthy eating is a domino effect to a healthier lifestyle and understanding of what your body needs.
Stop Saying Bad Things About Yourself
We need to be conscious about the things we say about ourselves. How we don’t look good in a pair of jeans, we don’t deserve something, etc. Saying bad things about ourselves trains our brains to think badly. Even if you don’t believe it, you need to be confident in yourself.
