You know those mornings? We’ve all been there – our alarm doesn’t go off, we are rushing out the door with our shirt inside out, didn’t have time to eat or brush our teeth. The list goes on and on. We all know those mornings. The way I manage my mornings has a big impact on how my day will go.
I’ve been getting so much amazing feedback on my lifestyle posts, I thought I’d share ways on how I want my mornings to go.
Wake Up to Music
Granted a lot of the days, I don’t set an alarm. I just naturally wake up at the times I want to. Unless I have a shoot and have someplace to be, then I use an alarm. Set your alarm with a song that gives you good energy and pumps you up! I’d rather wake up to a song that I like then the annoying buzzing alarm sound.
How many times have you woken up during the night feeling hungry? Make sure you eat lots of protein to keep you asleep. If you have to, make a little something before bed. There are times I’ve gone to bed hungry. Also try to remove any distractions. My cat, Charlie, likes to drink my water and he will knock down the glass and other things off my dresser. I’ve learned to jump awake when he’s next to me and about to do it. I’m trying not to let him sleep in my room anymore. He does prefer the hallway, which is good.
Your mornings will run so much smoother if you plan your outfit out the night before. So in the morning you are not trying to put together a look by trying on multiple things, throwing clothes all over. So pick out your outfit the night before.
Make Your Bed
I don’t know about you but I have to make my bed everyday. If I don’t my room feels messy and cluttered. Plus there has been a study that people who make their bed are happier and more productive. Plus won’t you feel accomplished making your bed at 8 am?
Make Time For Quiet
Just simply sitting down and just being still can help you start your day on the right foot. Even if it’s just for 5 minutes, hell if you can do it for 20 or even 30 minutes. It can be your coffee time, quiet time, saying a prayer, meditating, whatever you want, just as long as you take a breathe and relax. I’ve read somewhere that you can associate this time with something you love, like going for a walk, cuddling with a pet (I always spend time in the morning to cuddle with Reika and Charlie), watching the sunrise, listen to music, or enjoy your favourite drink. This will help you get in the right mindset for the day.
We’ve probably all done, as soon as we wake up we reach for our phones and check our email and social media. Don’t do it. Whatever is on there can at least wait until you’ve had your first cup of coffee or at least get dressed.
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I try to eat a big breakfast when I can. If you need breakfast in a pinch, keep granola bars around so you can easily grab and go.
I’ve already mentioned going to bed early in this post, and I think it still applies for every day. Try to go to asleep a half hour earlier. You’re more likely to wake up earlier too!
Let’s all try to make these a habit! Do any of you have suggestions? I’d love to hear them!
