Social Media Frustrations

I don’t know about you, but I have been extremely frustrated with social media lately, specifically Instagram.

As a blogger, Instagram is so important for business. Lately, I’ve been struggling so much with it. And I know I’m not the only one. In many of my Facebook blogger groups, others are also complaining about Instagram as well.

Why is Instagram making it so hard for us to grow and get engagement? I’ve noticed the only way, I have been able to get any sort of organic engagement is when I spend practically all day commenting and liking pictures. I was in 2 comment pods for a split second last week, then I read an article about Instagram cracking down on pods. Of course I left the pods after that.

By doing this, I feel like my blog is on the back burner. I spend so much time on Instagram that I feel like I barely have time to work on blog posts. My blog should first and Instagram second.

Then of course there are those accounts who just started months ago who have thousands of followers! I’ve been blogging for over 3 and 1/2 years and have been actively blogging for over a year and I’m struggling to get to 1500 followers on Instagram! How are these accounts doing it? Please tell me your secrets!

Social media should not be so difficult for businesses. Honestly, I wish Instagram would go back to when it was easy to grow and get comments. All I want to do is get in Reward Style and I won’t be able to do it with Instagram the way it is.

  • I get what you mean about having to spend all day liking and commenting on posts. It feels like you can’t have a day off because of you do, your followers go down.

    • It’s so annoying. Instagram has basically become a full time job!

  • Bella Skoog (Bella)

I totally agree with you! There are so many talented people out there nowadays which makes growing on social media so much harder. I find that when I really put effort into my instagram, the following grows rather quick. But as you say, it makes less time for the blog.

    • If I spend all my time on Instagram, I’m fine bit I don’t have time to spend all day!

  • You are looking so fabulous girlie! Loving the fall vibes!

  • Uggh instagram drives me nuts too. Having been a blogger for almost 9 years now, it’s totally changed the way people style blog and I’m not sure it’s for the better. At the same time, it’s unavoidable…

    • So true. You basically cannot blog without it.

  • Great post. With Instagram I post everyday and engage with everyone of my loyal followers. It is hard work but it is totally worth it. Have a wonderful day. xoxo Cris

    • I try to do that but it’s so time consuming.

  • Instagram is definitely a struggle at times for me. Always one step forward and two steps back it seems. And well the ones with tens of thousands of followers…one word – giveaways! Well that and they are some of the worst ones about following then unfollowing. I think a loyal following is better than numbers though it is so hard to not get frustrated, and of course potential sponsors want to see numbers. I try to enjoy it as much as I can along the way. Love your post and your outfit!:)

    • I agree with the loyal following!

  • I completely agree with you, it’s such a struggle to make progress developing my Instagram account. Gorgeous outfit and photos, and a brilliantly written post.

  • your freakin pup!! omg literally the CUUUUTEST thing i’ve ever seen!!

i feel ya pain girl, i’ve been stuck around 1300 followers on instagram for the last decade it seems! kinda starting to give up with it…

ps. not sure if you’re aware but your pinterest social media link top right doesn’t seem to be working (links to a dead end)…but managed to find you from searching! 🙂

    • when i say pinterest…i mean bloglovin 😉

      • Thanks for letting me know. I fixed it. The link was correct on my sidebar not sure why it wasn’t working up on top.

    • Aww thanks. She is pretty cute!

  • I understand the struggle! I started my new Insta couple months ago but no followers much. I don’t have time to like and comment all the time, so I have been okay with the slow growing. And I have been kinda put off with the app because I hate those follow – unfollow peeps. Now I just post photos there and comment & like when I open the app. But not on purpose to get noticed.

    • The follow unfollow people are the worst!

  • I’ve had my mind on ig too. I just created an ig account about a week ago for my blog and I find it frustrating already! Its a job within a job.

    • It is! I don’t have time for it!

Oh my gosh girl I completely agree with you. It’s so hard to gain engagement now and days without commenting and liking for a couple hours. It frustrates me just as much. And then when I see my engagement go down I get sad, it’s like why has Instagram come to this!! I remember the good old days too.
    http://sugarcoatedbears.blogspot.com/

    • Basically they made it so if you want good engagement, you must spend all day on it! Nobody’s got time for that!

  • La Veine

Ughhh instagram is a nightmare for bloggers! I was really invested in it for a year but after that I was so, so tired of spending the entire day posting comments that I just stopped it completely. I still have my account, but I post whenever I want and that’s it. Already lost more than 500 followers… Kinda sad, but I can’t make people stay. Best of luck for you though!

    • I sure don’t have time to spend all day commenting. I don’t know how people do it!

  • I understand your frustrations completely. My Instagram was disabled at 135K followers and I have had to start again from scratch. I have done everything and no one will help me and it has killed any love I have had for the app. It has really gotten me down the last week or so, all the best with your own growth xxx

    • I am still so sorry about your Instagram. It’s been happening to so many people lately.

  • Same here! Good luck with the instagram though!

  • Agree! Its so hard to maintain ig engagements now but as much as i can, i do likes on the people i follow on instagram and leaving a comment on some.

    SheenaLovesSunsets

    • I spend so much time on IG. I really need to cut back to work on other things but it’s hard.

  • I know what you mean with instagram. I’m struggling with it because it used to be fun, but with the feed I’m never seeing recent photos (2 mins ago, 2 days ago, 3 days ago, ad, 4 days ago, 2 days ago, ad, 20 hours ago) and it drives me crazy. I keep saying the ads aren’t relevant to me but it just throws more my way. I’ve noticed my numbers dropping off as I spend less time on it but my blog is just a hobby and if things aren’t fun I’m not going to put the effort in. I’m torn between trying to find a way to make it just as fun as before and just walking away when I feel I’ve invested a lot of energy into it!

Hope you are having a great weekend, free of social media! 🙂

Your fur baby is so cute!!! I completely feel your pain and frustration. I was shadow-banned i think for quite few months until I started posting fresh content daily on my page and spending more time commenting and supporting fellow bloggers. More chances are they will return favour and leave comments on ur page helping you to get your photo up and increase ur engagement. I have also started adding some less popular tags on all my photos to give it a good mix. Started following new accounts. Posting high quality photos and overall spending more time on IG than on my family (CRAZYWOMAN) to get myself out of the shadow ban thing and it helped a bit. My acct is on business setting so I can look at insights and my most popular times daily so i can post on most engaging hour. Hope these inputs will help you but keep your personal life on priority. Its just Instagram not Life. Lots of love x

    • That’s what I’ve been doing!

  • Toyas Tales

I understand your frustration with Instagram. I jumped on the Instagram bandwagon only recently even though I have been blogging for seven years. I just thought that it could get redundant so I hadn’t tried it until this year so it has been really frustrating for me coming in after they started cracking down. It seems like it is impossible to build real followers especially since some behave badly by following you just to unfollow you to achieve a huge following and likes. I just continue to focus on my blog more than I do social media. A lot of the people who have a lot of followers but are new to Instagram are buying followers. That is the dirty secret. They have a huge following but low engagement.

    • I hate the follow unfollow people!

  • It really is hard to build a following on instagram! That’s one thing I don’t like about it. I’ve had mine for 3 years, and only just passed 450 followers. I liked how things were when myspace was popular because you had to add people as friends, meaning you both would see each others stuff as opposed to one or the other. Even facebook isn’t really like that anymore because even when you’re friends with someone, you can still unfollow them and never have to see them on your timeline. The ‘following’ system that goes on these days means people only follow to try to get a follow back and build their numbers. I hate it. I always try to engage with those I follow.

    • They should really go back to the way it was with all these people complaining!

  • Fash-n-Curious

Instagram is a full time job and blogging is a full time job and then most of us have full time jobs…. and then we have family. SO there you have it…..FRUSTRATED!

    • It should not be this difficult!

  • I completely feel you on the IG frustrations! It took a lot of time for me to build my account but now I feel like it’s even harder to grow! I’m losing followers even though I put more time into engaging. AND it’s super frustrating to see so many people cheat their way through and buying followers !!

    • I know! I have to spend literally all day on it just to get others to engage. It’s annoying!

  • It’s so annoying. My friends who don’t blog, I rarely see their posts now.
